Executive Director, Friends of Bassett

Bassett Healthcare Network is seeking an Executive Director for the Friends of Bassett Healthcare Network, the philanthropic center for the network. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced fund development executive to partner with a seasoned and collaborative leadership team, providing strategic and visionary expertise to a growing, innovative nonprofit healthcare system in upstate New York. We seek an outstanding leader and strategic executive who has gift management and leadership experience. This executive will need to be a talented leader, communicator and creative problem solver. He/she must be a champion for the organization within our community and a contemporary thinker concerning the future and challenges of philanthropic giving.
Bassett healthcare Network is an integrated health care system that provides care and services to people living in a 5,600 square mile region in upstate New York. The organization includes six corporately affiliated hospitals, as well as skilled nursing facilities, health centers and health partners in related fields. Bassett Medical Center, the foundation of the network, is a 180-bed acute care inpatient teaching facility in Cooperstown, New York employing 3,700 people. The medical center offers a broad range of specialty care and maintains a strong academic program through its affiliation with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Responsible for the overall management coordination and direction of the fundraising operations across the entire Bassett Healthcare Network and the Friends of Bassett. Specific accountability in the areas of major gift solicitations, planned giving, annual fund, donor acknowledgement, stewardship and recognition, corporate and foundation proposals and fundraising events. Serves as the chief fundraising strategist for the Network, helping to align network strategic goals with fundraising programs including annual fund, capital and endowment campaigns. Responsible for the development and administration of all fundraising policies, programs and practices.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required
Masters degree must be obtained within 3 yrs from date of hire
5 years of management level experience required
A total of 10yrs of management level experience will waive the Masters degree requirement
Experience and skills in project management
Experience leading people (direct and indirect leadership roles); demonstrated people development results
CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) preferred
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, budgets, financial metrics, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination and timing of people and resources
Working knowledge of and utilization of systems thinking methodologies
Strong analytical skills
Highly self-directed with very little operational oversight and project "re-work" required.
Must have exemplary interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with those from diverse backgrounds, as well as those in senior leadership levels in the organization.
Ability to define problems identifies complex variables in situations with limited standardization processes, and work towards solutions.
Ability to work within common computer systems and programs
Ability to assess, problem solve, and make decisions based on the data available
Ability to present data in various formats, and various forums to varied audiences
Ability to implement change
Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team
Ability to influence and develop collaborative relationships, building cooperation in the pursuit and achievement of organizational goals
Ability to effectively work with individuals internal and external to the organization.
Ability to organize often changing work priorities and meet specific objectives under time constraints.
Additional skills may be needed for clinical jobs
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and work at computer for extended periods of time
Walking, sitting, lifting no more than 50 pounds
Must be willing to travel to network hospitals and other sites as needed

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
