Medical Office Assistant I(Job Id 563)

Full Time
Serves as the first point of contact for patients within the Bassett Healthcare Network. This is a key role in the patient centered care team. Demonstrates excellence in all patient and customer encounters including face-to-face and telephone interactions. Assures that a high quality patient experience takes place by providing administrative support to ambulatory patient care teams through excellent customer service, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills. Responsible for providing clear, accurate, timely communication to nurses and providers regarding patients. Responsible for accurate, appropriate scheduling of patients for optimum care and provider efficiency. Responsible for collecting demographic and financial information during the scheduling and/or registration processes to ensure full and timely revenue capture. May have direct revenue responsibility through payment collection, cash handling, processing of insurance eligibility and managed care information.
A Highschool Diploma or GED
Associate of Arts
Education equivalent experience:
High School graduate or equivalent preferred Associates degree or higher may be substituted for one year of relevant work experience.
Other information:
1 year of relevant work experience required
Customer Service Experience is preferred.
Competencies and skills:
Ability to work within common computer systems and programs
Capable of using effective oral and written communication
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Excellent customer service skills
Able to interact in a balanced, fair manner with others
Able to understand and interpret Medical Terminology
Must be able to set and adjust priorities
Working conditions:
Must be able to identify and differentiate colors.
Position requires prolonged sitting
Contact with patients, physicians, providers and other staff

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
